Connecting lives. Inspiring actions.

Climate Connections is a two year project that tells the stories of people living both in Brighton and Hove and across the world. People who are affected by the changing climate and are doing something about it.

In the last 20 years there has been an increase in extreme weather events such as floods and droughts, as well as noticeable rise in sea levels, and increasingly unpredictable seasons.

People in countries around the world are already living with these changes. Crop harvests are failing, homes are being destroyed and people are suffering water shortages.

Read their stories in this exhibition. Stories of proud families standing in the sunshine of Bangladesh and Portslade. Of determined women and men in East Brighton and Peru, showing their strength of spirit.

Be inspired to take action in your own life. Because all our lives and actions are connected.

Brighton Peace and Environment Centre is an educational charity which inspires action through learning about the world. We encourage people to explore links between their lives and people, places, and issues throughout the world. We provide training and support for teachers to bring the world into the class room.

Brighton & Hove City Council is committed to creating stronger communities and promoting sustainability across the city. The Council is leading by example by cutting its own carbon emissions as well as working with others to help them cut theirs.

Oxfam is a global movement of people passionate about putting an end to poverty. We respond fast in emergencies, and stay to help people to rebuild their lives. We work on long-term projects with people determined to shape a better future. And we campaign for genuine, lasting change. Oxfam's new Grow campaign aims to fix the broken food system that results in nearly 1 billion people going hungry every day.

The UK government believes it is in all our interests to help poor people build a better life for themselves. So in 1997 it created a separate government department – the Department for International Development (DFID) – to meet the many challenges of tackling world poverty.

All our lives and connections are connected.

Here are some ideas to inspire you.

  • Write to or visit your MP to tell them to take action on climate change

  • Reduce your waste and recycle everything you can – your clothes, old mobile phones, toys, furniture (These structures have been recycled from a previous exhibition)

  • Grown your own vegetables

  • Use your car less – walk, cycle or take public transport when you can
