Clock Trust have looked at current waste management and tried to see where community projects can significantly help.
It currently runs the Reclaim Fun Project.
With reclaim fun, the public bring in old, unwanted and interesting things for young people to take apart. This is called 'shaking the science'. They then either get repaired, freecycled, or if the product is fatal (i.e. needs to be re-used in part or recycled), then the product is SORTED.
The concept is to teach science and nature as one within the context of sustainable design.
The kids get to understand what makes a good product, to learn about different materials and their environmental impact, to become intelligent customers, and to record the living history in 3d. They also contact manufactures about their efforts to recycle, and promote the concept of 'product loops/circuits'.
