Warren Carter and parent volunteers Mary Gretton and Michaela Ward run the Year 4 Environment Club on Thursday lunchtimes at Moulsecoomb Primary School in Brighton.
They say the school has embraced the Sustainable Schools Framework which aims for whole school improvement and is exploring sustainable development through its teaching and learning.
Moulsecoomb School's vision is to enable all people throughout the world to satisfy their basic needs and enjoy a better quality of life, without compromising the quality of life of future generations. The school cares about the energy and water it consumes, the waste it produces, the food it serves, the traffic it attracts, and the difficulties faced by people living in its community and in other parts of the world.
Lucy Rayner is a community school worker there. She says: "Every week the children help out with planting and weeding around the school. Then, at the end of September, they pick, prepare and cook all of the fruit and vegetables they have grown and serve a big harvest feast in the playground for everyone."
"The children say that they love the club because they are learning about the world and how food is grown."
The 'Harvest and Environment' Festival 2011 was bigger and more fun than last year! The school is leading the way with teaching children outside the classroom, click here to read more about the event and watch the short film below.
Education supports the decisions we make and helps us to see there are links between what we do and what happens in the world
