Sathi Sivapragasam is committed to working with others to make a better future and volunteers for many community groups in the city, such as the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service and the Black and Minority Ethnic Community Partnership, where she has been helping to organise excursions.

She says: "I am originally from Sri Lanka. I arrived in UK 30 years ago and have been living in Portslade for two years. I am very active in various groups, for example WRVS Heritage Plus Project, which I go to every Tuesday."

"I love working as a volunteer with community groups and I strongly believe on building a better future for everybody. I believe in respecting the planet and each other.”

“I have an allotment opposite my home and I grow my own vegetables there. I make compost, recycle and walk everywhere across the city. Without respect for each other and the environment, we will lose what is essential for us to live on this planet.”

An update from Sathi:

Although she has now moved further away from her allotment, Sathi has been spending a lot of time there doing the many tasks necessary to maintain a productive patch. Summer time is a busy time for allotment vegetable growers and Sathi is no exception. She has been enjoying picking the abundant range of summer veg including french beans, courgettes, marrow, squash, spinach, tomatoes, leeks, onions, spring onions and leeks. As well as picking there has also been lots of weeding to do- as there always is in the summer. The good news is that the bees are now frequenting the allotment and especially enjoying the clover!
